Why Choose Saline vs. Laser?
Both saline lightening and laser removal can be effective—just in very different ways. Here’s how they compare so you can choose what fits your skin, goals, and timeline.
Here’s a Quick Comparison:
How it works
Laser: Breaks pigment and pushes it deeper for your lymphatic system to clear.
Li-FT® Saline: Uses osmosis to lift pigment up and out through the skin’s natural crusting.
Healing
Laser: ~7–10 days; some lasers can blister, which may extend healing.
Saline: ~7–10 days; no blistering.
Color & depth
Laser: Color-restricted (depends on wavelength) and depth-sensitive; may struggle with certain colors.
Li-FT® Saline: Not color-dependent—lifts all pigments (including white/titanium dioxide) at any depth.
Brows & hair
Laser: Risk of permanent eyebrow hair loss.
Saline: Does not affect brow hair.
Future tattoo/PMU
Laser: Heat and potential scarring can make skin resist new pigment.
Li-FT® Saline: When performed properly, skin typically accepts new pigment normally—great if you plan to correct or re-do work.
White/titanium dioxide
Laser: Often won’t remove or can oxidize to gray/black.
Li-FT® Saline: Removes/lightens white and can lighten titanium that laser has oxidized.
Sensitive areas
Eyes: Lasers are not approved for eyeliner removal (only a doctor could consider it). Li-FT® saline is safe and effective for poorly done eyeliner tattoos.
Lips: Lasers can’t be used on lip tissue. Li-FT® saline can.
Pain
Laser: Commonly described as very painful (hot snap sensation), even with numbing.
Saline: Tolerable for most; we tattoo Li-FT® solution with pre-numbing and non-epi secondary numbing as needed.
Cost
Both: Typically comparable; pricing varies by size and sessions needed.
Large tattoos
Laser: Best for large areas—covers big surfaces quickly.
Saline: Best for small tattoos and PMU; for larger pieces, remove in sections over multiple sessions.
When Saline (Li-FT®) Is Usually the Better Choice
You want to lighten or remove PMU (brows, eyeliner, lips) safely.
You have brow hair you don’t want to risk losing.
Your tattoo/PMU includes white/titanium dioxide or multiple colors.
You plan to re-do or correct the area afterward.
You prefer a no-blister healing process and tolerable discomfort.
When Laser May Be the Better Choice
You’re removing a very large body tattoo and want faster surface coverage.
Bottom Line
If your goal is precision PMU correction/lightening (brows, eyeliner, lips) or multi-color/white pigment, Li-FT® saline offers more control, fewer limitations, and keeps your skin ready for a beautiful re-do later. For big body tattoos, laser typically wins on speed and coverage.
